Cross Country

Yes, its cross country! I thought. I was nervous as I walked off to the start line. I hadn’t run a cross country race, they are longer than other races, and I was nervous of getting hurt on the rough ground.

“Ready to race? 3,2,1,” yelled Ms. V as she clapped the starting boards together. The year 8 boys zoomed off like a fast car speeding up the road! We all raced down to the far side of the field. I was already tired, but I sped up anyway to catch up with my friends. They were a long way ahead!

I caught them near the beach, the one at Pt England Reserve, the track there was muddy. ‘Mash’ water came into my shoes. “Come on, lets get going,” I said.
Breathlessly Marven said, “Stop, have a rest.”
So I walked with Marven until he caught his breath then we jogged up the track.

We passed some girls and boys that were walking. We kept running toward school, the year 8 boys and girls had to run extra because they are the oldest, out onto the reserve again and to the finish line. Before the line I thought, ‘I’m tired’.
“Come on!” yelled Mr J, “The race is nearly finished!”

I ran to Marven and Damion, and said we can finish the race together!” But they said
we can’t run just go I said why because we are going to walk OK bye.

“Go David they said to me finish line is there I said in my head I could hear people shouting when I saw the finish line some students I could hear students yelling go David go I looked and spirited to the finish line.
